(1) Attachment scar of nutlet basal to middle adaxially.

(2) Samara pubescent; leaf blade abaxially sparsely pubescent, adaxially hirsute or with convex trichome scars, base attenuated to rounded, apex shortly caudate.

(3) Leaf blade adaxially drying green, scales deeply lacerate to stellatelydivided.

(4) Fruit a berry with sarcocarp segments of pulp vesicles and adaxially attached seeds.

(5) Young branches glabrous. Leaf blade glabrous or only puberulent along basal part of midrib adaxially.

(6) Tepals 6, free, often tessellated with dark and light colors, with a nectary near base adaxially.
