He is remembered for making a lot of changes in the Labour Party in order to make it more popular. After leaving British politics in 1992, he became a member of the European Commission and became its vice president. He is married to Glenys Kinnock, who also worked for the European Union, as a Member of the European Parliament. He left the Euopean Commission in 2004 to become chairman of the British Council.
