- 世道有三责:责贵、责贤、责坏纲乱纪之最者。三责而世道可回矣。贵者握风俗教化之权而首坏,以为庶人倡,则庶人莫不象之。贤者明风俗教化之道而自坏,以为不肖者倡,则不肖者莫不象之。责此二人,此谓治本。风教既坏,诛之不可胜诛,故择其最甚者以令天下,此谓治末。本末兼治,不三年而四海内光景自别。乃今贵者、贤者为教化风俗之大蠹,而以体面宽假之,少严则曰苛刻以伤士大夫之体,不知二帝三王曾有是说否乎?世教衰微,人心昏
- 世间万物皆有所欲,其欲亦是天理人情。天下万世公共之心,每怜万物有多少不得其欲处。有余者,盈溢于所欲之外而死；不足者,奔走于所欲之内而死。二者均,俱生之道也。常思天地生许多人物,自足以养之,然而不得其欲者,正缘不均之故耳。此无天地不是处,宇宙内自有任其责者。是以圣王治天下不说均就说平,其均平之术只是絜矩,絜矩之方只是个同好恶。
- 世间事各有恰好处,慎一分者得一分,忽一分者失一分。全慎全得,全忽全失。小事多忽,忽小则失大；易事多忽,忽易则失难。存心君子自得之体验中耳。
- 世间事,无巨细,都有古人留下底法程。才行一事,便思古人处这般事如何；才处一人,便思古人处这般人如何。至于起居言动语默,无不如此,久则古人与稽,而动与道合矣。其要在存心,其工夫又只在诵诗读书时便想曰:此可以为我某事之法,可以药我某事之病。如此则临事时触之即应,不待思索矣。
