Mingus, Charles Charles MingusMin·gus, Charles /ˈmɪŋɡəs/ (1922-1979) a US jazz musician and composer whose main instrument was the double bass. In the 1940s and 1950s he played in various bands including Duke Ellington’s band. In the early 1950s he played with Charlie Parker and and started his own record company called Debut Records.
