Fiennes, Ranulph Ranulph FiennesFiennes, Ran·ulph /ˈrænəlf/ (1944–) a British explorer who has been on many trips to the North and South Pole. In 1982 he led the first expedition (=long and carefully organized journey) to go all the way round the world through the North and South Poles, and in 1993 Fiennes and another explorer, Dr Mike Stroud, walked across Antarctica (=the area around the South Pole) without help from anyone else.
