Rushdie, Salman Salman RushdieRush·die, Sal·man /ˈrʊʃdi, sælˈmɑːn/ (1947–) a British writer born in India, who won the Booker Prize for his novel Midnight's Children (1981). In 1988 his novel The Satanic Verses offended Muslims, who said that it was insulting to their religion, with the result that Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran gave a fatwa, an order that Rushdie should be killed.
